Mutta henkisesti rikas. Pääsääntöisesti basistit on, näkeehän sen päälle. ..but somehow, someway, I keep on coming with funky-ass shit. Like every single day. |

Here's some professionals from jazz genre. Many of these players are skillful with electric and double basses and some of them can play arco and pizzicato as well. Teppo Hauta-Aho http://www.yle.fi/player/player.jsp?name=El%E4v%E4+arkisto%2F05162_1Teppo Hauta-Aho (also known as "Kalmisto" meaning graveyard) is a master of classical and jazz double bass. I can't recommend any records because I don't own any. I have played his songs (He even decicated one for me which I'm grateful about). He is a great composer for solo double bass. Tuure Koski This man is my idol. There are many ideas in his playing I'd like to appropriate to my playing. I especially recommend to listen this record http://www.rockadillo.fi/turgan.htm so you get the image of his playing. The music is good both live and recorded. His playing is very calm and stylish. It seems that he doesn't have an urge to "advertise" his good technical skills. For me this means that he can tell the story with few words without too much details but still remain confident that the story he wanted to tell is told. Eeri Siikasaari I'm a fan of Finnish jazz band called "Trio Töykeät" and I especially recommend one of the newest albums called "Wake". Eerik Siikasaari is both classical and jazz player so he can handle the double bass with both arco and pizzicato. Timo Hirvonen This guy is well known in Finland from "In the Spirit of Jaco Pastorius" project. He is very skillful player. I'm not sure if he can play double bass but he's a genius with electric. Again I have to say that I can't recommend any records because I have heard him live only and In the Spirit of Jaco Pastorius concert on radio. Ville Huolman There are two bass players in UMO Jazz Orchestra (the only professional big band in Finland) and Ville Huolman is one of them. His playing can be heard from various Finnish jazz records. He plays double bass, electric bass and tuba so he's a bass player with capital B. I think he's his best with double bass but I like to listen him playing the electric too. Ari-Pekka "Ape" Anttila Ape is very popular freelancer bass player in Finland and he's known as a teacher as well. In my opinion he's one of the best teachers in Finland. He can handle jazz double bass and electric bass. I have heard him playing arco but mainly long notes. When it comes to gear I think Ape has and endorsement deal (or something like that) with Mark Bass. He uses JAK basses which are handcrafted basses made by Jussi Ala-Kuha.. I think a freelance Finnish bass player must be able to play electric bass and double bass to get enough gigs (sure you can play pop music for middle-aged people but that's what a jazz player doesn't want to do for living). It's important to be able to play many styles of music. And if you are able to play double bass pizzicato and arco (meaning you can play jazz and classical or just use arco in jazz) it's even better. I have seen many of these guys playing live and their gear vary. I'm sure that these guys are so professional that THE SOUND IS IN THEIR FINGERS, NOT IN THE GEAR. And one reason must be that there are no big bass gear companies building them big detached houses. I have noticed that they often use small backline because they have many gigs and they usually carry the backline by themselves. Jos käyttäisin harjoitteluun sen ajan, jonka käytän täällä keskusteluun, olisin hyvä basisti. |

I have noticed that they use as small backline as possible because they usually carry the backline themselves. Ihan hyvä teksti mutta tuon jätän omaan arvoonsa, aika vahvaa mutua. Enpä ole oikeasti kuullut kenenkään käyttävän mahd. pieniä kamoja vain siksi, että ne pitää kantaa itse. |

Well, these days the new neodymium elements make the bass players change their cabinets. The sound is good without any unreasonable weight. I just beat recently one bassplayer who had Ampeg's 8x0" cab with my 1210 Schroeder which was a way lighter, sounded much better and louder. The guy just sold his big cab in the very next day. :) Haribol! |

Well, no I am not. Anymore! :) I'm a gigging management consultant. Isn't that obvious just by looking at your gear list. ;) That's funny, most of the working bassplayers I know personally have and use Precision basses as well as Jazz basses. E: Of course some players have other basses than P and J but those are by far the most usual. Many do have at least one fretless and an Ibanez they started playing with :) But I can't name any bassist who uses P as their main axe. Well, after another thought Mitja Tuurala perhaps? And Sami Ruusukallio (well, he plays "humppa" for the middle-aged so does he really qualify as a pro in this case? :) ) Anssi Växby? alkaahan näitä tulla kun miettii. Basso murisee kuin voissa paistettu pantteri. |

Ok. Let's start listing. Harri Rantanen, has been THE studio ace for years. You should be able to see his gear list somewhere in his profile page here. But I've seen him mainly playing Jazz basses and Danelectro. Ampeg, Markbass and Hartke+bassojani stacks for amp/cab. Pekka Pohjola is a master of his own. Solo jazz/prog/rock artist since 1974 but also supporting Mike Oldfield, Made in Sweden, Tapani Kansa, Lapinlahden Linnut, etc. Custom bass by Jorma Kirsikka-aho recently, previously jazz bass. Carlsbro amps. (delta series?) Basso murisee kuin voissa paistettu pantteri. |

Yksi kaikkien puolesta! Ja se riittää...

That's great. By the way you have cool basses! Thanks for your kind words! There is one extra coming - my signature model from W&T basses. It will be a real hit - Sonic Blue Swamp Ash body with Flame Maple neck and fingerboard, golden hardware, specially designed pickups from Christolph Dolf (makes pickups for Stanley Clarke) and also very rear ACG preamp with two filters and high frequency compensator. The wood work from W&T is just stunning! Better than anything ells out there. I really hope to get it in August or September. And of course - ready to share the pics with you guys! :) Haribol! |

Aika hurjaa tekstiä.Paas vähän perusteluja. Vai ootkos kenties agitaattorina Ampeg-yhtiössä? Olisikohan huumorilla mitään tekemistä asian kanssa.... Well, these days the new neodymium elements make the bass players change their cabinets. The sound is good without any unreasonable weight. And I don't mean just 8x10, I have smaller cabs too. I'm sorry because of that guy if he really went to sell his 8x10. |

They felt flaccid and loose, no string tension and no sound. The only one was the most expensive model but it didn't feel like a 4000 EUR bass. More like a 800 EUR bass. I really found cheap Laklands to be much much better than Windmills. But they do very good marketing. Sorry, if I insulted someone's feelings. Maybe these 5-6 basses were an exception. :/ Haribol! |
