Hey guys! I am interested in getting a list of Finnish pro bassplayers. Anyone knows how to get it? Or maybe we should put together a list of top players? The reason is to get more information what instrument or gear someone uses, what styles they play mostly etc. I can help with Estonian bassplayers. :) Margus Haribol! |

Thanks! Anybody knows also what gear do they use? Mostly Fender Jazz and SVT. :) The weak ones may use Markbass. Seriously, you want a list of Finnish pro players and their gear? It might be doable, but why? Basso murisee kuin voissa paistettu pantteri. |

It might be doable, but why? This is exactly what I was about to ask too. Always play on one and don't fake the funk. -Bootsy- |

I play and build basses as my hobby. Knowing more about pro players and their preferable gear helps me to understand more what works and what doesn't. And it is always great to have a possibility to talk with serious players. Haribol! |

Mostly Fender Jazz and SVT. :) The weak ones may use Markbass. For example Harri Rantanen. Jari Heino is one worth mentioning. He used Hartke amps & cabs when I saw him playing a few years ago. "It's the ear, not the gear. " |

Knowing more about pro players and their preferable gear helps me to understand more what works and what doesn't In a bass, I think the most important factors are - mic setup - choise of woods - looks For mics, J-set seems to be the favourite by far. Musicman style mic has a distinctive tone that is either loved or hated. I like MM+J for its versatility (if the MM is splittable). You don't see too many Precisions around in finland, but it does suit many styles. Alder+maple+rosewood or ash+maple+maple, makes a huge difference to the tone, and both are widely used. Bolt-on neck is the mainstream. There's tons of wood+construction combinations that work, but I don't have the time to get into this topic, sorry :) The importance of aesthetics is sometimes underrated. Most pros seem to prefer a vintage look. A Jazz or P, even Thunderbird or Ric. I would say that a special feature in Finland is that Hi-Fi looking instruments are not that well respected. Edit: sorry, I'm not a pro ... Basso murisee kuin voissa paistettu pantteri. |

You don't see too many Precisions around in finland, but it does suit many styles. That's funny, most of the working bassplayers I know personally have and use Precision basses as well as Jazz basses. E: Of course some players have other basses than P and J but those are by far the most usual. "It's the ear, not the gear. " |
