I am not sure if they use Gotoh tuners. They could be some cheap Korean version of G7 tuners.
Most likely so, but at least mine look and feel identical.
I'd assume that the Hybrids share the same dimensions with their respective "regular" MM counterparts.
If so, they won't fit the MTD which has a unique PU size/shape. But if one is going to refinish the bass, it won't be too big of a deal to fill and route new pickup holes.
BTW: delano poles are 17mm from each other, MTD is 19mm... Basso murisee kuin voissa paistettu pantteri. |

Hey, got back my heavily modified MTD Heir 5. As I promised to share my experiences with you guys I will drop you a few lines. I'll send a few pictures in a few days as well.
What I really did:
1. I let the luthier to strip the fat polyester finish off from the body and peghead.
2. I didn't put the body to the thermo treating oven for extra dryness, because I was a bit afraid of how the glued joints would react.
3. I let the luthier finish the body in Solid Sonic Blue (thin nitro coat).
4. I didn't change the pickups to Nordstrand MM+ humcancelling J. Instead of that I let one of the best luthier in Estonia to rewind the pickup coils.
5. I didn't add John East pre (5-knob version with passive tone) yet. Instead of that I ordered Noll preamp with 3 fully parametric EQ. The bass is all passive until I'll get the pre.
6. I didn't change the frets to Jumbo size.
7. I changed the tuners to Hipshot Lights (in Gold).
8. I changed the bridge to Hipshot A-style (in Gold).
Well, I was amazed by the result these changes gave me. The bass is actually as good as the two US MTD535's I have. As the body is from Basswood and the pickups are passive, it sounds a bit differently of course but the quality is still compareable. It reminds me actually my Sadovsky RV5 but it is more versatile with MM (splitable coils) and J pickups. I can dial both the Jazz bass sound as well as MM StingRay sound. But it plays much better than both the basses I named. It's really a good bass, as good as some USD5000 botique bass and it cost me 600+400 EUR altogether.
I'll try to record some sound clips in the nearest future.

My biggest gripe about Kingston is the necks, but of course it is possible that you have a good one.

Well, the neck of the Heir is exactly the same as one of my MTD535 has. Exactly the same measurements and the same feel (with a new finish on it). It suits me better than my Sadowsky and I think the sound surpasses my Sadowsky! :)
Yes, the single cut is Woodandtronics (W&T). This bass is truely a masterpiece. It's the best bass I've ever touched. The wood is so resonant, it's almost scary. :) You don't have to pull strings, it almost plays itself. Just a wonderful piece of art. I strongly recommend W&T basses to anybody who is looking for the superb instrument. I tried 10-15 different Foderas during my last trip to Europe and this baby beat them all! :)

How is the sound of W&T? Is it clean/clinical in the same way as Ken Smith/Fodera/Warwick SS1? |

Yes, the sound is very clean - that expensive HiFi sound. But it has a lot more highs than any of Foderas I've tried have ever had. The trick is in Nordstrand/East preamp combination and also the wood combo. By the way, Fodera offers now also Nordstrands. :)
