http://www.21frets.com/squier_jv/jv_quick_guide.htm SST-30 Domestic Squier Strat
-Built approx mid summer 1983 to roughly mid 1984 (JV7xxxx on).
-1957 and 1962 style Strats and 70's style CST version.
-Strats - Alder and basswood bodies.
-Japanese plain wire SQ- 3 ceramic pick-ups (level machined steel poles with a bar magnet across the bobbin base), electrics, hardware and plastic - Strats have a zinc alloy trem block.
-Budget covered tuners (no string slots, with a collar around the base of the tuner buttons).
-DM-50 five way switch.
-Thin polyester finish.
-Usually stamped with 'ST-30' or unmarked in the neck pocket.
-Springs for pick-up height adjustment / spacing.
-A small round blue sticker was affixed to the back of every new domestic JV guitar, with its grade number / price printed on it, in this case it would be a '36' (36,000 Yen). These stickers are sometimes missing.
Comment:
Not the sought after model that the higher end guitars are (the SST-30 is seen on ebay from time to time......not a rare model as such), and is often priced to match it's JV serial more so than it's specification.
This was the budget Squier JV model (yes, budget Squier!) but in absolute fairness to it, the build quality was / is excellent (as you would expect), but the tuners and pick-ups were not in the same league as the higher end Squiers. No player would be disappointed with an SST-30!
