Hello,

Also sent this email to Roland in Helsinki. If anyone can help me that would be super!

I emailed and corresponded with someone about 2 weeks ago from Roland Helsinki about a small problem im having but still im afraid
I have not been able to come to a solution. The whole problem should be a simple matter with a simple solution.

I am running Cubase SX-2 and using Roland Fantom-S synth which is hooked up via midi thru to my rack Ensoniq asr-10 sampler's (midi IN).The Roland synth is more or less the master and that is hooked up with midi in and out to my computer.
I am using the M-Audio Delta sound card/ midi interface and it has worked fine in the past.

My problem is odd as i am able to trigger sounds from my sampler only when i draw notes in cubase. What i am not able to do is to play the roland synth keys and trigger sounds out of my asr-10 sampler as it should work.

Im certain the midi cables are all hooked up right as again the sampler does work fine but just annoying when one cant trigger the sounds via keyboard, especially cause the asr-10 is a rack model.
With the current midi hook up i now have i am able to play sounds from the asr-10 sampler and roland together in cubase no problem. So the problem cannot be very big.
But there is no signal at all between Roland and asr-10 when i play roland keys.

now the trick is trying to find where the problem lay. My guess is Cubase as someone else also speculated.Ive checked that all channels are correct and so on.Also have tick marks in the midi thru boxes in Cubase but still no luck.
Perhaps if not cubase, then the Fantom-S. There are quite afew settings under the Roland > System> midi and have tried to change some here to see if they might help with no real
luck as i dont really know what i should be looking for.
I have also reset factory settings on the Roland in the hope that this could have solved something.

I am fairly familair with the ASR-10 as it is quite a simple machine. The Roland however is quite new to me and i suspect the problem either lay there or Cubase which Roland probably
cannot help me with all that much. Abit tricky when there is 3 companies involved in these matters.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

One test you could try, set your sampler's receive channel to "omni" and keyboard's send also. Of course you can't do any real work like that, cause you would trigger samples all the time, but that should reveal the possibility of problem lying in the channel setups.

Does the sampler receive trigger input if connected directly to the keyboard out? From your description i got the idea, that the sampler is connected to keyboard's midi thru, since computers midi terminals are hooked to the keyboard.

If so, it could be that computer is sending out trigger signals only when recording. Maybe you could also try hooking computer's midi out first to the sampler, and then daisy-chaining kbd to its midi thru?
