Viime lauantain 14.7. Kaleva kirjoitti taas juttua King Diamondin Suomen keikoista, jotta King&Co olisivat lokakuussa Suomessa. Onkos kellään tarkempaa tietoa? Ovatko lehden toimituksessa kaivaneet vanhan jutun jostain pöytälaatikosta vai onko vielä toiveita kiertueen onnistumiselle?

No, sittenhän se on lähdettävä tuota levyä ostamaan. Enpä ole juuri tuon Conspiracyn jälkeen perehtynyt bändin tuotantoon. Oliskos nyt aika...

En tiedä odotteleeko muut yhtä innokkaasti King Diamondia taas Suomeen saapuvaksi, mutta tässäpä suht tuoreita huonoja uutisia. Selkä vaivaa pahemman kerran ja ei taida olla kiertueella lähikuukausina.
 

 
North American tour cancelled.

Most regretfully we have to announce that King will not be able to tour North America as planned.
 
King has over the past 6 month been suffering from a herniated disc in the spine, and has still not recovered to a satisfactory level.
 
He was prescribed absolute rest for several months, and this appear to be more than half a year.
 
Following several visits to specialists and most recent MRI-scan; we have to realize that his condition need far more rest than expected in the first place. At the moment he can neither walk for more than an hour at a time, nor can he sit like you would do in a normal daily life; ie. there is no chance that he will fully recover in time for the tour start in March.
 
We deeply regret the inconvenience caused for everyone involved, for promoters, bands and fans; and most of all we're very very sorry that we can not go out and perform for the fans; who have been waiting for the tour to kick off.
 
Unfortunately life is unpredictable, and it's completely out of our hands when illness kick in, and no medicine, how harsh it might have been, can cure the situation. If anything could remedy the situation it would have been done, but for now we simply just have to wait, and let King get the much needed rest.
 
I will post news about any developments as soon as it's available.
 
At this time we will also like to say Thanks, for all the kind words of a speedy recovery we have received.

"Them" on yksi maailman hienoimmista levyistä ikinä. Graveyard on mahtava myös.

King Diamond kyllä painii tällä hetkellä ihan omassa sarjassaan musiikillisesti. Edelleenkään se ei anna minulle kuitenkaan sitä fiilistä mitä pitkäikäinen lempibändini Iron Maiden, mutta jäätävän loistava bändi. Mr. Petersenin tulkinta on huippuluokkaa ja laskenkin hänet maailman parhaaksi laulajaksi. Antaa kylmät väreet jo pelkällä katseellaan.

En ymmärrä Abigailin jatko-osan saamaa arvostelua. Levyä väitetään usein epäonnistuneeksi ja löysäksi kokonaisuudeksi, mutta en itse löydä siitä kuin yhden väliinputoajan, Little One-kappaleen, joka sekin tosin sisältää maailman parhaan riffin ;) Usein Abigail kakkosta kuunnellaan niin kuin sen pitäisi olla samoissa tunnelmissa ensimmäisen osan kanssa, mutta tuskinpa tuo oli bändinkään ajatus levyä tehdessä. Abigail 2 edustaa Kunkun uuden ajan alkua, joka itselleni on ainakin sitä rakkainta Diamondia.

Now that it's been made official, yes, I will participate in the tribute to "Dimebag" at OZZFest. It's an honor to have been asked to participate, and my back is steadily getting better, definitely good enough for a short appearance, and it couldn't be for a better cause.
 
I live only 7 minutes by car from the soccer stadium where OZZFest takes place, so there is no way in hell I would miss this opportunity to pay tribute to "Dimebag".
 
I do have to say though, that my back is not yet fit to undertake a full King Diamond tour.
 
I know it sounds like I'm saying the same thing over and over 'my back is steadily getting better', but let me assure you all that it is significantly better and really getting stronger and stronger week by week!!! There is nothing I'd rather do than get back on the road, but it has to be for good and not just for a week or two and then find out that we took a stupid chance by doing it too soon.
 
A few other good news: Massacre Records have taken their option for another King Diamond album. Negotiations with Metal Blade Records to extend the King Diamond recording deal has been completed, and are practically ready to be signed. Further, contracts between King Diamond and MERCYFUL FATE, and Metal Blade Records and Massacre Records have been agreed upon and are almost ready to be signed for a double DVD of King Diamond and a double DVD of Mercyful Fate, consisting of mainly never before seen private recordings in very high quality (King Diamond 1986-1990; Mercyful Fate 1982-1984). If all goes well, the King Diamond DVD set might hit the stores before the end of this year and the Mercyful Fate DVD set would probably hit the stores early next year.
 
Another project we've been working on is to create remastered versions of The Spider's Lullabye and The Graveyard, plus Voodoo and House Of God. Andy La Rocque is undertaking this project at his Sonic Train Studio in Sweden, and so far I have heard his version of The Spider's Lullabye and it kicks some serious ass. It was as if I was listening to a brand new album, it sounded exactly like it should have sounded back when it was released (we did not at that time master our albums ourselves, and let me tell you, they suffered by it). For the first time ever, I heard all the things we actually recorded (certain vocal harmonies and guitar overdubs; all the details are there now). In my opinion, this one is gonna be a MUST HAVE. You know I wouldn't say this if it wasn't true. Andy has just told me that the remastered version of The Graveyard is in the mail for my approval. Once I've listened to it, I'll let you know how it turned out.
 
There is another project in the making which I unfortunately cannot speak about yet. If it comes true though, it will be a very big thing for King Diamond/Mercyful Fate. It is not a new Mercyful Fate album or tour, but it is something that could be very big for us. It is more like being a part of someone else's VERY BIG project, and which can only be announced by them.
 
As you can probably see, I have not been lying on my back the entire time since I last wrote to you.
 
Before I finish, I sincerely want to thank you all for the unreal support you give us. You are by far THE BEST!!!

DVD-julkaisut kuulostaa mukavalta, samaten noiden levyjen remasteroinnit, sillä Spider's Lullabye ja House Of God sattuvat uupumaan kokoelmasta. Mikähän tuo suuri salaisuus lienee, MF-kiertue olisi kyllä maittanut..

"Them" oikeastaan aukesi minulle kunnolla vasta hetkittäin. Aika paljon on sitä levyä tullut viime aikoina kuunneltua, tän hetken lemppari Kingiltä. Aivan mieletön tunnelma jo heti ensi sekunneilla. Parhautta.

Conspiracy on taas mun mielestä vähän yliarvostettu. Ei se huono ole, mutta ei aivan edeltäjiensä tasolla mun kirjoissa.
 
Sillä levyllä ainakin LaRocque on kyllä ehkä kaikkien aikojen kovimmassa iskussaan. Muistan, kuinka ensimmäisellä kuuntelukerralla albumin riffit ja soolot räjäytti pään totaalisesti. Pakko kuitenkin myöntää, että levyn tarinassa jäädään kyllä vähän ainakin Abigailin ja "Themin" taakse.

Itse aloitin Conspiracylla, mutta oikeastaan mikä tahansa nelikosta Abigail, "Them", Conspiracy, The Eye kannattaa ehdottomasti kokeilla. Siitä sitten 90- ja 2000-luvun materiaalin pariin. Fatal Portraitia unohtamatta.
