The sickly ladies
are spreading their hands
The happy old men
are playing chess
as their mahogany laughter
echoes in the streets
And the air is filled with dust
 
And a cat in the alley
is suddenly startled
by something unnatural
and escapes into
the purple shadows
to wait for the soothing
hissing of the moon wheels

In a street corner
there's a man playing guitar
The guitar has no strings
but he doesn't mind
just keeps on playing
as the people gather around
And they sway into the the soundless music
 
And there's a black dog barking
somewhere in the crowd
caressed by a little girl, delirious and proud
And then there's a sound
of a breaking guitar string
and the girl drops dead on the ground
