Laulava Kylätohtori: Hi Gary,

I said your guitar, amp and pedals are cheap (it's what this thread is about) and one noticed that your American Standard strat got 6 screw tremolo, not two point like they usual (or always) do...

We just wonder what's the story behind it?

And maybe you wonder why google translator gave word 'huijari' = 'crook', it's just because i wrote that i assume you're not a crook according your web site...

I didn't see the word crook!

With regards to the price. I'm an English guy and I have to say, without being rude, Finnish second market is way overpriced!

I would never buy anything musical related from here.
I always joke that I should buy guitars second hand from uk ad sell them here.

I see stuff being sold here that never seems to sell. And I think it's overpriced. Just my opinion.

You got that right. It's sad but true that our price level of second hand market is what it is. But luckily every once in awhile there's some good deals too...
Believe what you want, it doesn't mean you're right...

And for me, all my gear was bought in the uk, so for me my price is right.
Maybe I should up my prices though!!! :)

I think the reason for the general level of high price for second hand guitars is because people buy the guitars from the stores without proper haggling. They just hand out the money. Of course, when the gear moves to the next guy, the selling price tends to be high, if the original purchase was expensive.

Finnish buyers are not used to haggle. Few reasons for this is that historically there has been quite small market for instruments in Finland. If there is just one or two shops within hundreds of kilometers, there is not enough competition. Also if a store has only one guitar of desired model to choose from, it's really sellers market. Buyer is happy as an american in burger-heaven, if he just gets the guitar he wanted, no matter the cost :)

Things has changed recently; the shop and guitar selection are now more abundant, thanks to the Great Spagett Monster.

Also, people who haggle are regarded as cheapish persons. Haggling is not regarded as a noble act; almost like insulting shop owner for not to set the price properly. Maybe we do not like to offend the shop owner; finnish people are regarded also shy and socially handicapped :)

We have always looked the eastern shopping style as inferior, laughable style of transaction; maybe we just want to seem like richer than we are in other eyes?

I would agree with that. Even in the uk I would haggle if I was buying a big item, for example an amp or guitar. New or secondhand.

Maybe it's the shop mentality. I went along with my wife while she was selling some stuff at a flea market and I have to say, Finns definitely haggle then. Almost to the point of of extreme. I know it's not to the same expense of a guitar, but still.

A few years back I travelled a lot in the UK on business. Naturally I visited any music store whenever possible. One immediately notices the immense difference in supply. Eg. music store in Ipswich was the size of our Prisma. Definitely affects the prices, too.

Koskaan en ole poistunut ostamatta. Tuonne jos menee niin on aina menoa. Antavat viela perkeleet vaihdossakin hyvan hinnan vanhoista.
En allekirjoita.

Sorry bro, i live in Devon and the regular price for second hand guitars here runs about the same in pounds as the market here in muusikoiden.net.

So for a 500€ guitar you end up paying 500gbp. No joke. Also, I've been tryin to find a telecaster for half a year now but sadly they tend to run about 1000gbp for an am std, whereas I've yet to see an am std go for over 1000€. I saw a pac904 go for about 500€ on Tori. Some dude is still trying to sell his pac904 on preloved for 695 pounds (ovno). Jesus jetskiing christ!

I'd love to know whereabouts in the UK you can find these mythically cheap instruments since so far they've managed to elude me completely.

I wondered the same thing; I have for years amazed the high prices in the ads of UK guitar magazines. Looks quite even or even more expensive than here..

But it's true what Gary said about the haggling in the flee markets; if you are selling something for one euro, lots of people offer only 50 cents :D

Crazy!

I'm from the Midlands, not too far from Birmingham, so maybe that has an effect on the prices. No offence to the south west, but I guess the supply and demand is a lot greater in my neck of the woods. Of course eBay plays a big part in the uk. Using eBay in Finland is near impossible, especially for large items.

When I first arrived in Finland I bought over my Mesa lonestar. I bought it from eBay for 800 pounds. (winning bid)
Sold it in Finland for 1200euro. Of course back then the rate wasn't as bad as it is now. Now it would be about right, but back then it was a tidy profit.

Seiskakielistä jos tekkee mieli kokkeilla niin on tarjolla halpaa ja äärettömän kovvaa semmosta: http://muusikoiden.net/tori/nayta.php?id=975699

Jani Liimatainen soitteli Sonata Arcticassa samanlaisella joten kait tuossa on alle 500 eurolle jäätävästi vastinetta!
