Tuo alkuperäinen WH-1 Whammy on kai hieman parempi noiden monen äänen yhtäaikaisessa pitchauksessa, vai onko? Enpä tiedä voiko oikeastaan millään pedaalilla/vermeellä tehdä noin kovinkaan onnistuneesti.
Tulipa mieleen, kaivoin tämän tuolta amerikan foorumeilta, pistetään nyt tähän kun Whammystä puhetta tuli :-)
"Digitech commissioned the canadian company IVL for the design and production of the original Whammy as well as a variety of their other effects.
The Subsequent whammies were designed and produced by Digitech....now IVL And Digitech are part of the same company, but the technology used in the original whammy is no longer being produced, so Digitech does not have the ability to re-create the original whammy exactly as it was.
All versions of the Whammy are digital...the older Whammy-1 sounds "Warmer" because the old 12 bit digital technology was not capable of processing the higher frequencies of the guitar signal, thus some of the high end disappears when the effect is engaged....that is the main reason that it sounds "warmer"
Many people prefer this warm tone of the original Whammy-1, but the technology of the whammy-1 and the way it was designed (such that it automatically senses the level of your guitar and automatically adjusts the input to accomodate it, as well as other things) allows it to "track" in a musically pleasing way....IE, it finds your note very fast, and the note bends in as close to real time as it gets to you moving the pedal.
The newer Whammies, (the Whammy-2, the XP-100, and the Whammy-4 (reissue)) all have a similar response....they feel a little bit behind you when you are playing. It feels a lot like you are using a heavy chorus when the effect is engaged. This delay is so slight, however, that it is not really noticable by someone who is not playing....to them it sounds like a normal guitar, the pitch of which can be bent at will.
Whammy 2s are cheaper than the WH-1, but they are not appreciably "better" than the newer versions...I suspect they get their value simply because they have been discontinued for a while, some famous people used them, and thus people think that they must be better (sort of like a TS-808). The XP-100 was the "whammy 3", and they are still pretty easy to find cheap. They can do whammy effects and wah effects, and they are slightly programmable. Although the wah sucks, the Whammy is as good as the 2, or the re-issue as far as its performance.
The best deals, I tend to think, are found in the Digitech RP-series. They range from 69-199 new.....less than the Whammy-4, and all of them have the whammy effect, with all of its presets (except the full step pedal controlled detune) available. The performance is equal to the Whammy-4 (Actually, it's better...the RP series can pass 20-20khz, while the whammy 4 can only pass frequencies below 12khz). And they are cheaper (not to mention they do a very nice chorus and delay, and provide a whole bunch of other effects you might enjoy--these can be disengaged so you can use just the whammy if you would like)
For what it's worth, I have owned all of the whammy versions and use whammy all the time. The only ones I have kept are an XP-100 and the one built into the GNX-3.
Whammy 1's are neat....but they aren't worth anything close to the $375 they sell for (You can get a VG-8 for that! It does MUCH better pitch bends), so I sold both of mine."
