Hi there. Apologies for English. But despite living here many years, my Finnish is still quite painful!
 
I am curious to know if there are any musical open mic nights currently ongoing in Helsinki or the capital area?
 
What I am looking for is the kind of event where someone with little / no live experience can get up with an acoustic guitar and play original songs -- for a small (and forgiving!) audience.
 
Based on googling alone I don't see anything like that around.
 
I know there was one at Molly Malone's every Monday, but that seems to have folded last year.
 
I also know of Mendo Mondays at Bar Mendocino, but although great that's a jam night which focuses on covers of blues, classic rock etc. I have been down there a couple of times in the past and don't recall anyone playing original material.
 
Sammettiklubi appears to have headed over to Zoom during the pandemic, but has not had any activity for over a year.
 
I can see Google results for other venues that may have had some kind of Open Mic thing in the past (Hard Rock, On the Rocks, Mascot), but if I look at current web pages and social media feeds I don't see anything.
 
Hoping some of the good people here might be able to point me in the right direction!

I think things are still recovering over pandemic, but at least Hard Rock had a jam night yesterday or one day before. Probably pseudonym Jjylli could help, he's active in these open mic events.

In Turku there are pretty nice open jam sessions at Rica Bar. If you ever find yourself in Turku that is.

Hip-hop focus, but a welcoming crowd that didn't mind me interrupting the evening with some acoustic stuff for 10 mins. Also well worth checking out for the amazing Finnish rap talent there. First tuesday of the month

I played KOM once in the spring, but it didnt start up again after summer holidays. I was also planning to play the Siltanen open mic in May, but it was cancelled at last minute and replaced by a gig. There have been no open mics there since.
 
Whats left are the jam nights that you can find in various bars such as Mendocino on Mondays (which I checked out a few years ago and was really impressed) and then Lazy Fox. But I am not sure that original material would fit in at either place really.
 
So I think we can declare the Helsinki open mic scene dead!

Some changes. Siltanen had a one-off open mic night in May, but it isn't back regularly.
