"All of us are musicians for a reason. Music offers something different to each person. But one of the things it offers everyone is some sense of belonging, some sense of security - with the universe, with the world, with nature, whatever it is. Some sense that you are a part of something and are closer to it than before. And especially in improvisational music where you're constantly searching for something that even when you find it that's just another stepping stone - you're looking for something else at that point. You never find "it", you just find yourself closer to it."

"Your hands are like dogs, going to the same places they've been. You have to be careful when playing is no longer in the mind but in the fingers, going to happy places. You have to break them of their habits or you don't explore, you only play what is confident and pleasing."

"As I've said, so much time, energy, and MONEY goes into talk about equipment and the like, when only a few things are really of paramount significance when it comes to musicmaking - and guess what, I don't think equipment is high on that list! It still comes down to WHAT NOTES one chooses to play and to HOW ONE TOUCHES THE INSTRUMENT."
